The Dulverton Museum, Somerset, has a collection of old photographs of the town’s traders from the early part of the last century, typically standing in striped aprons outside their premises. The Museum needed someone to photograph the modern day traders to create a ‘Then and Now’ slideshow. I photographed 70 plus traders between January and March 2014. The slideshow is on permanent display in the Museum’s Dulverton Room. The whole collection is retained by the Museum as a modern and now ageing, archive.
The photos below are examples of how quickly things change as many of the businesses and their proprietors are now long gone. I photographed all the traders again in 2021 for the Visit Dulverton Campaign. They are on display on the Visit Dulverton website.
